WEWANDER

Problem: loneliness prevents people from getting the most out of where they are. from moving to a new city to .solo travel, it can be difficult to make friends and get to know a new area.

Solution: this passion project from 2019 aimed to combat the loneliness of travel, resulting in a solution to connect people and places like never before.

Note: WeWander was a for fun project and was never developed into a real tool.

Loneliness is a pervasive issue that prevents people from getting the most out of where they are. Examples range from moving to a new city, getting to know an old one, or traveling out into the world.

Our research suggests that there is a real desire for a solution to travel loneliness. Initial user research via survey and interview revealed both attractors and problem areas associated with solo travel and connectedness.

WeWander is a platform that allows solo travelers to connect based on what we all have in common - a desire to share experiences and form bonds with people and places. The app allows travelers the opportunity to both find, and host, activities that they wanted to do - just not alone.

That world famous restaurant you wanted to try? Just make an event posting, and find other solo travelers to have the experience with. The app also addresses the logistical issues of traveling with limited resources. Many travelers may want to go far a particular hike, but lack transportation or gear. Others may want to take a hot air balloon ride, but don't have anyone to split the cost with.

With WeWander, they are given the freedom to take full advantage of the geographic location without the burdens - both financial, social, and logistical, that are inherent in solo travel.

WeWander was a passion project born out of a desire to learn about loneliness and design a hypothetical solution for it. As research and design nerds, all work was done for fun with no intention of bringing the tool to life.

With additional funding, however, this project has the ability to become a reality. Please reach out if you are interested in discussing further.
